Cookie Policy
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are information stored on or read from a user’s device. Some are necessary to operate and secure a service; others, such as analytics or marketing cookies, may require prior consent.
2. How does the HelpTana choice work?
On the first visit, the website offers “Accept all”, “Reject optional” and “Settings”. Users can change or withdraw their choice using the cookie-settings link in the footer. Rejecting optional analytics does not prevent access to website content.
3. Essential and functional cookies
| Name | Scope | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
ht_cookie_consent |
.helptana.org and subdomains |
Remembering the choice, random identifier, time and notice version | Up to 180 days |
pll_language |
.helptana.org (main domain and subdomains) |
Polylang: remembering the last selected language code (functional cookie) | Default: 1 year; actual duration depends on configuration |
This list covers cookies observed during anonymous visits. Signed-in WordPress users may receive additional technical cookies necessary for authentication and dashboard functions.
4. Optional analytics
HelpTana Cookie Consent records the analytics choice but does not itself load Google Analytics or Meta Pixel. If independent plugins or third-party embeds use optional cookies, they must be blocked separately until the appropriate consent is obtained. A banner by itself does not block every script.
5. Record of choices
Choices are recorded in the central WordPress database as a pseudonymous UUID, event type (acceptance, rejection, custom choice or withdrawal), analytics preference, notice version and UTC time. The dedicated table contains no columns for IP addresses or User-Agent headers. The plugin schedules a daily WordPress Cron event, ht_cookie_prune_events, to delete records older than 12 months. Timely execution depends on WordPress Cron running correctly.
A random identifier is not fully anonymous. The register is used to demonstrate accountability for consent and its withdrawal.
6. Changing preferences
Preferences can be changed using the “Change cookie settings” button in the footer. A user may also remove the cookie through browser settings. When the cookie expires or is deleted, the website will request a new choice.
7. Legal basis and data information
Requirements for accessing information stored on user devices are set out, among other provisions, in Article 399 of the Polish Electronic Communications Law (Prawo komunikacji elektronicznej). Personal-data processing is subject to the GDPR. More information appears in the Privacy Policy.
